Admiralty,

Hongkong,

26th Augt 1865(?)

I have the honour to acquaint you for the information of his Excellency the Governor, that the case in the Margin was brought into the Supreme Court on the 27th day of June 1847 by Her Majesty's Acting Attorney General for Hongkong in the name of the Queen against Cpt. Thomas Larkins(?) the Master of the "Corsair" Steamer, to recover the penalty of $100... for a breach of the Post Office Laws, at the suit of the Crown as Criminal Crown Prosecutor.

This Law suit had ceased in consequence of the Acting Attorney General in December 1846.

I was employed by the Acting Attorney General in conducting the case which came on, and was tried on the 2nd day of June 1847, when a verdict was given in favour of the Crown, and a penalty of $100 was adjudged against Cpt. Larkins.

On the 25th of the same month, Mr. Larkins paid One hundred dollars by a check on the Oriental Bank, this $100.- was received by me as the Acting Attorney General from whom I received my instructions.

I waited to know what was to do with the residue of the penalty after deducting the costs, the suit being by the Crown, Mr. Larkins could not be made to pay costs, namely my fees as Attorney & Counsel, so I was told to keep it till I was asked about it, as his Excellency the Governor would not interpret the matter.

I have already informed his Excellency, and shall make out a Bill of these costs, and forward the same to you as soon as possible.

To

Mr. D. R. Parker.
